One Team, Focused on Your Care
Your care at AUCNY may include an Advanced Practice Provider (APP), such as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
APPs are licensed healthcare professionals trained through rigorous post-graduate education and extensive clinical rotations. APPs hold national board certifications, giving them the authority to evaluate patients, diagnose acute and chronic conditions, order diagnostic tests, perform procedures, and prescribe medications.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why might I see a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner?
Your urologist may recommend an APP for certain visits based on your individual needs. APPs can help manage many routine and ongoing aspects of your care and may also offer greater appointment availability when you need to be seen.
How do my urologist and APP work together?
Your APP and urologist communicate and collaborate as part of your care team. If you need further physician evaluation, a procedure, surgery, or specialized treatment, they will coordinate the appropriate next step.
Some patients may also work with a nurse navigator, who can help coordinate care, answer questions, and guide you through different stages of diagnosis and treatment.
Can I schedule an appointment directly with an APP?
Yes, you may schedule directly with a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, or your physician may recommend an APP for your next visit. Our scheduling team can help determine the appropriate appointment option for you.
At AUCNY, our team-based approach gives you access to knowledgeable healthcare professionals working together to provide the urologic care you need.
